Latest: 18.05.12 Project 13 @ Joshua Brooks

I caught up with the biggest ginger dubstep producer to come out of Leeds since Rusko,  Wachs Lyrical  (We featured a mix by him a couple of months back which is still worth downloading! (DOWNLOAD HERE)), to find out his influences and what hes got on the cards in the next few months.

EXAMPLE:  For those that don't know. Wachs Lyrical what do you do ?

Wachs: I am a professional playa and i guess i write some music on the side. ;)

Example :  ha ha so how long have you been producing?

Wachs : Since I was about 17 back in those days it was all about garageband loops.

Example: What do you produce on these days?

Wachs: Logic Pro Studio,  I finally coughed up and bought the real thing as well.

Example: So how would you describe your sound?

Wachs: Well its been  changing a lot over the last year. I guess people started paying attention after my release on Dubsaw. Which was pretty hard hitting.  But since then its changed dramatically.  I'd say its far more techno based at the moment.

Example:  Who would you say has influenced your sound?

Wachs:  I take a lot of inspiration from 2562, Ramadanman and Scuba.

Example:  So you had a couple of releases last year including an EP on Manchester born label Subdepth.  Whats next in the pipeline?

Wachs:  Well the first one is coming on Subdepth again. But this time on vinyl.  It's a collaboration with Riskotheque on a Techno tip.  The remixes on the flip are gonna be ridiculous as well. I just got the first one through.  Its buy iGrade he is an alias of someone very well known. You'll know about him soon enough.

Example:  A lot of people are saying that dustup is changing at the moment.  would you agree with that?  If so where do you think its heading if anywhere?

Wachs:  I completely agree and I'm happy about it.  It's healthy to have a changing sound then we don't get stuck anywhere.  Personally i think it's splitting in half. There's the bro step side which is always going to be popular (its not my thing but each to their own ey,) and then the deeper side is turning into loads of little sub genres. I'd like to think i encompass all of those in my sets.  Who doesn;t like to mix headhunter into UK funky.

Example: You're in LA right now. If you could collaborate with anyone huge out there who would you pick?

Wachs:  Id love to work with Daedelus. The man is a fucking G when it comes to live shows probably the best I have ever seen. Outside LA I'd love to work with Linkin Park or at least their producer.

Example:  What other producers are you backing at the moment?

Wachs: Ah my favourite part.  Myrkur, TMSV, Subreachers, Hellfire Machina, Akilles, Riskotheque, Phaeleh, Ruckspin, Submerse and Submotion Orchestra.

Im well into this tune at the moment. It actually takes the piss!!!

Mix with Headhunter - Sex at the Prom for maximum effect.

oh and this one is my favourite track at the moment...

It went down hard when I played in Michigan girls grindin up on each other everywhere was jokes.

Example: So the final question before we leave you to go and chill in LA.  Where do you stand on the Marmite debate?

Wachs:  I love the stuff. Can't get enough. I mix it with a lot of butter. About 32 bars in. For Maximum Effect there as well ha ha.

Example There we have it an interview filled with tips ha ha

Wachs:  Aight im off to have lunch on Venice Beach ha ha.
