Latest: 18.05.12 Project 13 @ Joshua Brooks

Roy Orbison is brilliant, 'Oh, Pretty Woman' is so feel-good that I well up every time I think of Richard Gere and prostitutes: I'm sure you all feel the same. However I was a bit surprised to see him releasing a brand-spankers three track E.P on Aus Music, seeing as how he died in 1988.

This posthumous effort is undoubtedly one of the highlights of my year so far. 'So Derobe' is a lesson in how to build a sublime understated dance floor smasher. Beautiful rising synths intersected by ominous percussive stabs give way to a throbbing bare bones beat that rides above a vibrant, dark sub bass line.

Broken vocal samples and euphoric sounds take my consciousness back to years before I was born, when everyone was fucking happy at dances and Roy was still beltin' em out.

Title track 'The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow' follows, happily, in a similar vein, staying heavy on the samples and synths, but with underlying pulsating tribal drums. Actress is on buttons for the remix of 'The Shrew...' with a delectable minimal-tech reworking.

No ones made music this good from beyond the grave since forever, so don't miss out.

Wait, JOY Orbison? Makes sense now.
